This summary is here to help you read the Terms; the numbered sections below are what actually apply.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and FounderPrompt LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company that operates Zenbu Anime (“Zenbu”, “we”, “us”). They apply to the website at zenbuanime.com, the Zenbu Anime mobile apps, the Zenbu Anime Companion browser extension, and everything we offer through them (together, the “Service”).
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and why. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you get the app from an app store or the extension from a browser’s extension store, that store’s own terms also apply to the download and to any purchase you make through it. If those terms conflict with these about the store itself, the store’s terms win.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or use the interactive features of the Service. If you are under the age of legal adulthood where you live, you may use Zenbu only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete it.
You may not use the Service if we have previously banned you, or if the law where you live forbids it.
You can create an account with an email address and password, or by signing in with a provider such as Google, Discord, or Apple. Give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for everything done through your account.
Do not sell your account or transfer it to someone else, and do not create accounts to get around a ban, a block, or a limit we have placed on you.
Your username must not impersonate someone else or Zenbu, use someone else’s trademark in a misleading way, or break the content rules in section 6. We may change or reclaim a username that does, and we may reclaim usernames on accounts that have been inactive for a long time.
You can delete your account and its data at any time from Settings, on the website or in the app. What deletion removes is described in the Privacy Policy.
Zenbu is a place to track, rate, rank, and discuss anime. It includes your library and ratings, rankings and lists, reviews, recommendations, taste and compatibility features, episode chats, a social feed, direct messages, notifications, and tools to import a list from another service.
We are always changing Zenbu. We may add, change, or remove features, and some features are marked as previews or tests and may not work perfectly. We will try to give notice before removing something you rely on, but we cannot promise that any feature will stay available.
Anime information such as titles, synopses, episode counts, airing schedules, and cover art comes partly from public anime databases and may be incomplete or wrong. Scores, rankings, recommendations, compatibility, and taste profiles are calculated from members’ activity for fun and discovery; they are not facts about any show or person, and we do not guarantee them. Airing times are estimates.
“Your Content” is anything you submit to the Service: ratings, library entries, reviews, rankings and lists, profile details, profile pictures and banners, images and screenshots (such as Top Moments submissions), comments, episode-chat posts, direct messages, reports, and feedback.
You keep ownership of Your Content. To run the Service, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, adapt (for example, resize or crop an image, or format text for a different screen), display, and distribute Your Content in connection with operating, improving, and promoting the Service, including showing public content on Zenbu’s own pages and social accounts (for example, featuring a well-loved review or ranking). We may let the service providers that run Zenbu for us do the same, only for that purpose.
This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for: copies in backups, which are overwritten in the normal course; content others have already shared or quoted in their own posts, such as a reply that quotes you; and anything we must keep to comply with the law or to deal with a report.
Content you make public can be seen by anyone, including people without an account and search engines, subject to the privacy settings on your profile. Direct messages are visible only to you and the person you send them to.
You are responsible for Your Content. When you post it, you confirm that you have the right to, and that it does not break these Terms, the law, or anyone else’s rights.
If you send us ideas or feedback, including feature requests, we may use them without paying you or crediting you.
Zenbu is open to members aged 13 and over, and it is not a place for adult content. You must not post, upload, send, link to, or use as a username, profile picture, or banner any of the following:
Talking about what happens in an anime, including violent or dark events, is welcome. Mark spoilers where the Service gives you a way to, and keep spoilers out of places where people would not expect them, such as titles, usernames, and comments on episodes that come earlier.
Zenbu’s rankings and recommendations only work if they reflect what members really think. You must not:
If you find a bug or a security problem, please report it to us rather than using it. We are grateful for responsible reports.
You can report any post, comment, review, message you received, ranking, moment, profile picture, or banner from its menu, and you can block another member from their profile. A blocked member cannot follow you, message you, or interact with your content.
We review reports. To keep Zenbu safe at its size, we also use automated tools: some posts and uploaded images are checked against these rules by an automated moderation service before they appear, content that several members report may be hidden until we review it, and accounts that are reported often may have lower posting limits for a while. Automated tools make mistakes, and a person can look at any decision you ask us to.
When we believe these Terms have been broken, we may remove or hide content, limit how often an account can post or message, restrict access to some features, or suspend or permanently terminate an account. We may do this with or without notice, and we will usually tell you what happened and why unless that would be unsafe or unlawful. Serious violations, including anything in section 6(b), lead to termination on the first occurrence.
We do not review everything before it appears, and we are not responsible for what members post. If you think we made a mistake, write to us at [email protected] and we will look again.
Direct messages can be sent between members who follow each other. We do not read them, except a message its recipient reports to us, or where the law requires it. Automated limits on how fast messages can be sent apply to everyone, and the content rules in section 6 apply to messages too.
We send notifications about activity on your account, such as follows, replies, and messages, in the Service and, if you allow it, as push notifications on your phone. You choose which kinds you get in Settings and can turn them off on your device. We may also send emails needed to run your account, such as password resets, purchase receipts, and important changes to these Terms; these are not marketing, and you cannot opt out of them while you have an account.
Most of Zenbu is free, and the core tools for tracking shows and connecting with other fans will stay free. Some features are available only with a paid membership, Zenbu Plus. The features included, the price, and the billing period are shown before you buy.
Subscriptions.A Zenbu Plus subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and you are charged for the next period, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time: a subscription bought in a mobile app is managed and cancelled in that app store’s subscription settings, and one bought on the website, once subscriptions are offered there, is cancelled from your account settings on the website. Cancelling stops future charges, and your membership stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. If a renewal payment fails, the store or payment provider may retry it for a short time, and your access may pause until it succeeds.
Founding Members. Members who bought the one-time lifetime pass before the mobile app launched are Founding Members. A lifetime pass gives Zenbu Plus for as long as your account exists and Zenbu operates the Service, with no recurring charge. It is personal to your account and cannot be transferred.
Prices. Prices may include or exclude taxes depending on where you live, as shown at checkout. We may change the price of Zenbu Plus. A new price for an existing subscription applies only from a renewal after we, or the app store, have told you about it, and you can cancel before it takes effect. Introductory offers and free trials, if we run them, are explained when you sign up and convert to a paid subscription at the end unless you cancel before then.
Payment providers and refunds. Payments are processed by the app store you buy from or by our website payment provider; we do not receive or store your card details. Refunds for app store purchases are handled by the store under its own refund policy. Except where these Terms or the law say otherwise, payments are not refundable and we do not give credit for partly used periods. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under consumer law where you live, such as a right to cancel within a set period.
Changes and termination. We may change the features included in Zenbu Plus, and we will not take away the core of what you paid for during a period you have already paid for. If your account is terminated for breaking these Terms, your membership ends with it and is not refunded, except where the law requires.
You can import data from other services, such as your MyAnimeList or AniList list. When you do, you confirm that you have the right to import that data and you let us store and use it to fill in your account. We are not responsible for the accuracy of data from other services.
The Service links to and works with services we do not run, such as sign-in providers, streaming sites, anime databases, and app stores. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them. A link to a streaming service is not an endorsement, and we are not affiliated with any streaming service or studio.
The Zenbu Anime Companion extension is optional. It works on the video pages of supported streaming sites to mark episodes watched and to show episode comments, as described in the Privacy Policy. You need your own account with the streaming site, and you remain bound by that site’s terms. The extension does not give access to any video, does not get around any site’s protections, and may stop working if a site changes; it is not made, endorsed, or supported by any streaming service.
The Service, including its design, software, logo, the Zenbu name, and the ranking and recommendation systems, belongs to FounderPrompt LLC and is protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service and to install the app and extension on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you without our written permission.
Anime titles, characters, images, screenshots, and related material belong to their respective owners. Zenbu does not claim ownership of them and shows them to identify, discuss, and review the works. Zenbu is an independent fan community and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any anime studio, publisher, or rights holder.
We respect the rights of copyright holders and respond to notices of claimed infringement under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act and similar laws. We have registered a designated agent with the United States Copyright Office (registration DMCA-1083297); the agent’s full details, and a longer explanation of how we handle complaints, are on the Copyright & DMCA page.
If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, write to [email protected] or by post to FounderPrompt LLC, Attn: Copyright Agent, 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States, telephone +1 917-810-4291, and include:
We remove or disable access to material identified in a valid notice and may tell the member who posted it. If you posted the material and believe it was removed by mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to the same address with your name, address, and telephone number; the material removed and where it was; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any court where Zenbu may be found) and to accept service from the person who sent the notice; and your signature. We may restore the material unless the complainant tells us they have started legal action. Sending a notice or counter-notice you know to be false can make you liable for damages.
Repeat infringers. We have adopted and reasonably implement a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of members who repeatedly infringe copyright. We keep a record of valid notices we receive and the accounts they concern. An account that is the subject of repeated valid notices will be terminated, and we may terminate an account sooner where the infringement is flagrant. Notices that are withdrawn, successfully answered by a counter-notice, or found to be invalid do not count against an account. We may also refuse to let a terminated member open a new account.
You can stop using Zenbu at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or end your access as described in section 8, or if we have to by law. We may also stop offering the Service, or part of it, and if we shut Zenbu down entirely we will give reasonable notice where we can so you can save what you want to keep.
When your account ends, your right to use the Service ends. Sections 5 (for content that remains, as described there), 10 (for amounts owed), 13 and 16 to 20 continue to apply.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or free of harmful components, that data will never be lost, or that information on it, including anime data, scores, and recommendations, is accurate.
Some places do not allow these disclaimers. Where that is so, they apply only as far as the law allows.
To the fullest extent the law allows, FounderPrompt LLC and the people who run Zenbu will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to the Service or these Terms, even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose and US$50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
If you use the Service in a way that breaks these Terms or the law, or post content that infringes someone’s rights, and someone brings a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover the reasonable costs, losses, and legal fees that result, to the extent the law allows. This does not apply if you use Zenbu as a consumer in a place where such a promise cannot be required of you.
If you have a problem with Zenbu, please contact us first at [email protected]. Most issues can be fixed quickly, and we will try in good faith to resolve yours within 30 days before either of us goes further.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard by the state or federal courts located in Wyoming. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there.
We may update these Terms as Zenbu changes or the law requires. When we do, we change the date at the top. For a change that materially affects your rights, we will tell you in advance, in the Service or by email, at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless the change is needed sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.
These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and any terms shown when you buy something, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies, and the unenforceable part is applied as far as it can be. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may transfer ours to someone who takes over the Service, and your rights under these Terms continue. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Section headings and the summary at the top are for convenience only.
If you got the app from Apple’s App Store, these additional terms apply. These Terms are between you and FounderPrompt LLC, not Apple, and Zenbu, not Apple, is responsible for the app and its content. Your license to use the app is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store’s usage rules. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; to the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Apple is not responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection claims, or claims that the app infringes someone’s intellectual property; Zenbu is responsible for investigating, defending, and settling such claims as these Terms provide. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
